Bunga Penutup Abad
Overview
Bunga Tutup Abad (The Closing Flower of the Century) tells the story of Nyai Ontosoroh and Minke's life after Annelies' departure to the Netherlands. Concerned about Annelies' well-being, Nyai Ontosoroh sent one of her servants, Robert Jan Dapperste, also known as Panji Darman, to accompany Annelies wherever she went. Panji Darman reported on Annelies' life since her departure from Surabaya Harbor through letters sent to Minke and Nyai Ontosoroh.
Minke regularly read these letters to Nyai Ontosoroh. Each letter opened a door of nostalgia between the three of them. For example, when Minke first met Annelies and Nyai Ontosoroh, how Nyai Ontosoroh was sued by her stepdaughter, leading to Annelies's deportation to the Netherlands by a court ruling in the Dutch East Indies. Separated from Annelies, Minke and Nyai Ontosoroh discovered the meaning of the best and most honorable resistance.
