Millenial Marzukiana New Year Concert in Jakarta featuring Ananda Sukarlan

Ananda Sukarlan will be the highlight in a Jakarta New Year Concert on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Ciputra Artpreneur Theater. In this concert, Ananda Sukarlan will be inviting five young musicians from the millennial generation, namely Jessica Sudarta, Finna Kurniawati, Anthony Hartono, Mariska Setiawan and Aryo Widhawan.

This was conveyed by Ananda Sukarlan to the media at the Ciputra Artpreneur Gallery, on Tuesday (18/12). In the concert, Ananda Sukarlan will present several songs by Ismail Marzuki such as Selendang Sutera, Melati in Tapal Batas, Gugur Bunga, Halo-halo Bandung, Indonesia Pusaka, and others.

"Why Ismail Marzuki? He is one of Indonesia's greatest musicians. Many composers from Europe and Asia have played Ismail Marzuki songs so I, as an Indonesian, would want to do something better to introduce Ismail Marzuki's works internationally, "he said.

Ananda Sukarlan will also present several interlude songs, namely "Malin Kundang", a legend from Minang. The song will be narrated by Handry Satriago, CEO of General Electric (GE) Indonesia, as well as featuring opera footage from the epic novel "Erstwhile" by Rio Haminoto which tells a 700-year old love story.

Rachmi Aziah, the daughter of Ismail Marzuki, thanked Ananda Sukarlan, Ciputra Artpreneur, and Kaya.ID for bringing back her father's works. For her, Ananda Sukarlan's concert will be very special because Ismail Marzuki's songs were previously only presented in the form of classical, orchestras, and soloists.

Nita Kartikasari, CEO of Lumina Kaya Indonesia said that the works of Ismail Marzuki is a legacy of Indonesian art and culture that must be preserved and promoted internationally. She hopes that many families in Indonesia will celebrate the New Year by coming to this concert.
